Student / Kids ..
Hi and Welcome to GREAT. If you are reading this there is a good chance you are already coming to GREAT or you are about to start. At GREAT we do lots of fun stuff that is hopefully going to help you with your literacy, numeracy and ICT skills.
At GREAT we have loads of cool stuff like PCs, cameras and Apple Macbooks (really new lap tops) for you to use. Each week we will play some games and then you will be asked to do a main challenge for the evening. This could be going around the cricket grounds taking pictures, designing your own computer game or making some music on computer. You will also get to play on Education City which is a great website where you can improve your literacy and numeracy.
Don’t worry about coming to GREAT.. we have lots of people on hand to help you if you get stuck with anything. We have helpers called Study Coaches and they're really friendly. They are used to working with young poeple. Some of the helpers are young people themselves aged around 14 who came to the centre in the past and decided to stay on to help because they liked it so much ! Just about everyone who comes here says they have a good time. When you come we will ask your group to come up with your own rules so hopefully we can prevent things like bullying. Here are a few things that other young people have said about GREAT:
“ Coming to GREAT has helped me with maths and English and all sorts of subjects.” Connor year 8
“It makes it better when we start with a game because then we’re in the mood to do stuff. It helps when we’re told what we’re going to be doing at the start of the session. It’s better than school because we’re not always just writing. It does help with writing being on the computers. If we weren’t here we would just be sat at home watching telly or be bored.” James year 8
“I really enjoyed coming to the cricket ground because I have learnt a lot of spellings and I have made lots of new friends. “
